Honeymoon Adventures

Posted on 02/09/2017

We are living in a time of change. Increasingly, we are seeing travelers that are no longer satisfied with cookie-cutter vacations, and that certainly applies to honeymooners. Couples spend an average of about $30,000 on a wedding these days, according to CNN Money. They are realizing that funds designated for the wedding may be better spent on an adventurous honeymoon.

A shift is taking place in honeymoon travel. For years, the market was fairly traditional: Hawaii, Mexico, Paris, Tahiti, etc. Those are still popular, but increasingly travelers are now requesting "honeymoon experiences" that complement their lifestyles. What are those? Requests such as cheese-making in Switzerland, pottery classes in Japan, sleeping in ice hotels in Iceland. Having a great adventure, an African safari, is a great value now due to the buying power of the U.S. dollar, making it a more accessible destination for honeymooners. They want to make bigger memories than taking selfies on a beach.

The experience is what vacationers are now looking for. They want to dig into the destinations they visit. They want to learn about the culture, history, people, and cuisine. Additional ideas of that are the following.....

*Honeymooners wanted to visit Nicaragua and be taken back in time. They had a true farm experience in the forests, milking their own cows - with the chef processing and homogenizing the milk for them - and picking their own eggs for breakfast. For dinner they caught their own shrimp. They planted two mahogany trees and marked the GPS coordinates. Now every year they can receive an update on how their tree is growing.

*Cuba is growing by leaps and bounds in tourism interest. Guided tours that explore art, history and culture are what appeals. It is not the typical fun-in-the-sun vacation that many think honeymooners are looking for.

*Costa Rica - a small but mighty country - that offers an active vacation filled with whitewater rafting, tubing, canyoneering, horseback riding, kayaking, zip-lining, and soaking in the hot springs. In addition, there is hiking through areas looking at the numerous and wonderful wildlife found throughout.

Looking for your next adventurous and memorable honeymoon? Think about your interests and passions....if they can be envisioned, they most probably can be realized!
